The 'Mad Men' actor did not understand why 'stupidity is certainly celebrated' and 'the idea of being 'elite' is somehow considered a negative'.
"Mad Men" star Jon Hamm has publicly slammed reality stars Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton for contributing to the "stupidity" culture. To the new issue of Elle U.K., the actor said such culture is honored and "the idea of being 'elite' is somehow considered a negative."
He continued, "Whether it's Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian or whoever, stupidity is certainly celebrated. Being a f***ing idiot is a valuable commodity in this culture because you're rewarded significantly." He added, "Incuriousness has become cool ... It's celebrated. It doesn't make sense to me."
Hamm also did not understand why being skinny and blonde are set as the standards of beauty in the modern society, saying curvy women like his "Mad Men" co-star Christina Hendricks are more interesting. Speaking of his often-praised look, Hamm said, "I don't even consider myself handsome. When I look in the mirror I see my goofy-assed self from when I was a kid."
