Asked about the engagement of his ex-wife to former football star Eric Johnson, Nick says, 'I will say the same thing I always say: I wish her the very best.'
After her ex-wife Jessica Simpson sent her best wishes to him and Vanessa Minnillo for their engagement, Nick Lachey has now sent his too. On Monday, November 15, a day after news that former football star Eric Johnson proposed to Jessica made headline, the former 98 Degrees star told Us Magazine, "I will say the same thing I always say: I wish her the very best."
While only giving short wishes to Jessica, Nick preferred to continue the chat with the site by dishing out his own engagement to Vanessa. Sharing that they are "still basking in the glow" of the news, Nick added during a conference call for his NBC singing show "The Sing-Off", "I'm sure we'll get on the other planning shortly. We are now just enjoying this experience."
Jessica and Eric's engagement news came just a week after Nick announced that he is engaged to wed longtime lover Vanessa. Eric asked Jessica's hand in marriage with a three-stone Lane sparkler. The ring features a large central ruby which is over 5 carats and two pear-shaped diamonds, also more than 5 carats.
"Eric wanted the most romantic, beautiful, special ring for Jessica," celebrity jeweler Neil Lane told People. Eric added that the gem "represents love" while "the ruby is a stone of love and it is the most romantic gem and it's very rare and very, very special."
Both Jessica and Eric's as well as Nick and Vanessa's wedding dates have not been revealed yet. Then-couple Jessica and Nick wed on October 26, 2002. However, on December 16 three years later, the "Employee of the Month" beauty filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences."
