AceShowbiz - With all the dark clouds hovering the upcoming premiere of "Grey's Anatomy", at least one character is getting an improvement. A shirtless Derek smiling from behind the door is one of the pictures released as the promotional effort of the first episode that airs September 24. Additionally, there is a new sneak peek of him caught naked by Izzie and Alex.
This season, Derek will make one big decision regarding his career, whether or not he will take over Chief's job as the head surgeon. Plus, the fact that Ellen Pompeo is heavily pregnant and will take a maternity leave later this year, become the more reason for the show to focus on Derek's path. "Derek hasn't been a fully explored character separate from Meredith," Executive Producer Krista Vernoff said.
Also joining Derek in the smiling department are Lexie and Callie. The rest of the photos, meanwhile, are about either George's funeral or the medical case. One of them shows Debra Monk as George's mom in the funeral.
"Grey's Anatomy" returns for its sixth season with a two-hour event starting at 9/8c. In the first hour, entitled "Good Mourning", the hospital staff is left to deal with the aftermath of George's passing. Taking it hard, they all find unique ways to get through the various stages of grief. George's mom returns, faced with the difficult task of deciding what to do with his organs.
In the second episode, entitled "Goodbye", time has passed, everyone is struggling after losing one of their own and is turning to any distraction they can find. Meredith and Derek seem to be consummating their marriage anywhere and everywhere, while Cristina and Owen have been instructed to abstain from sex by Dr. Wyatt.
