Riding high on the success of their single "Kryptonite" in 2000 and the years after that plus their consistency in spawning hits after hits, 3 Doors Down are undoubtedly a rock icon that have embedeed their name so deep in the history of rock music. The band are now back in 2008 with their new effort, a self-titled album which will be released on April 20 via Universal Music.
Speaking about the new set, the band's guitarist Chris Henderson explained that their music has been revolutionizing since the last time they spawned an album. "We actually got to sit and work on it, instead of cranking it out," he said. "Over the years, since 1999 pretty much, there's always been some sort of deadline. A deadline for touring, for videos, for this or that. This time we were like, 'You know what? Let's take some time off and let's go back and write without a deadline and see what happens.' So we did that."
In a bid to promote the album, the band have also scheduled an extensive tour together with rock outfits Staind and Hinder. The jaunt will begin July 9 and end September 7, with a total of venues visited around 24 plus.
For years, 3 Doors have been regarded as one of the most prominent alternative rock bands of the early 2000s. They have managed to deliver songs that in the next century will also still be talked and probably covered by many sprouting music acts. Prior to the 2008 album, they have shelved three Top 10 albums and more than ten high-charting hits.
The three pilot members of 3 Doors Down have been collecting things that they could use as instruments ever since they were kids. They had also been bonded by childhood and their breakthrough single was written by drummer slash vocalist Brad Arnold as early as high school years. Arnold wrote the lyrics to "Kryptonite", the single that propelled them to great success later on, during algebra class at East Central High School but little did he know that the song could brought him millions in the years to come. Arnold, guitarist Matt Roberts and bassist Todd Harrel, the Mississippi natives who were hailed from a relatively small town called Escatawpa built their dreams of becoming rock stars by forming a band in 1994 with their first gig being a backyard party of a friend. Self-proclaiming to be a fan of Metallica, Bush and Pearl Jam, their early play list are mostly cover songs of the rock bands although few moments later they realized that they can bring their own materials. They slipped "Kryptonite" in the play set and it surprisingly became a hit, sending them bookings at local clubs. Later on they felt the need to make their sound stronger and therefore hired guitarist Chris Henderson to join the lots. » more
