Star-Studded Extravaganza for 'Filth and Wisdom' New York Premiere

In anticipation of the theatrical release of Madonna's directorial debut, "Filth and Wisdom" has been brought to New York City to celebrate its premiere. Hosted by The Cinema Society and Dolce and Gabbana, the comedy drama held a star-studded special screening event at the Sunshine Cinema on Monday, October 13, in New York City.

Hitting the red carpet solo without her director husband Guy Ritchie, Madonna came in wearing a conservative black dress completed with a pair of black stilettos. Of her movie, the legendary pop singer who is circling the globe for her Sticky & Sweet tour shared, "I'm so happy with the finished product. Writing it was actually my favorite part because it is so different from everything I do and deep down inside I'm really a writer."

The trailer to "Filth and Wisdom" has been released, introducing some of the characters involved in the movie. The drama comedy is the directorial debut of pop queen Madonna that has received mixed reviews when it was premiered at Berlin International Film Festival on February 13, 2008.

Centering its story on the narration done by Ukraine native Andriy Krystiyan who travels to England and live with two female flatmates, "Filth and Wisdom" is cinematic tale of everyday life about people who are obliged to take on jobs just to earn a living. Whether we take the path of wisdom or the path of filth, we will eventually arrive at the same enlightened place.

Madonna Making Directorial Debut Through 'Wisdom'

Having a reputation as a legendary pop singer and a notable role as Eva Peron in acclaimed drama musical "Evita" apparently is not enough for Madonna as she is now said to be adding a new trade to her resume. According to Variety, the 49-year-old entertainer will be making her directorial debut as IFC Entertainment has attained her film "Filth and Wisdom".

Reportedly, the distributor has obtained the North American rights to the film co-scripted and co-produced by the "Material Girl". Reasoning on IFC's objective in getting the screening rights, Ariana Bocco, the IFC acquisitions and production vice president, stated, "She took some interesting risks stylistically that all pay off at the end. When I saw the film, I felt that it deserved a bigger, wider platform. Madonna and her crew are open to the kind of release we're going to do, so it was a natural fit."
