The Grammy-winning raptress joins the cast of a highly anticipated coming-of-age musical film produced by the 'Happy' hitmaker and directed by Michel Gondry.

AceShowbiz - Last year, Missy Elliott cemented her legacy by becoming the first female rapper inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Now, the multi-talented artist is set to showcase her acting skills in Pharrell Williams' upcoming coming-of-age musical film.

Elliott joins a star-studded cast that includes Halle Bailey, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Brian Tyree Henry and Kelvin Harrison Jr. Set in Pharrell's hometown of Virginia Beach during the summer of 1977, the film draws inspiration from the musician's childhood. Elliott, who grew up nearby in Portsmouth, has a personal connection to the setting.

The film, directed by Michel Gondry of "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" fame, is written by Martin Hynes and Steven Levenson. Elliott's role has yet to be disclosed, but her presence adds excitement to the project.

This marks a significant acting role for Elliott, who is primarily known for her musical accomplishments, including four Grammy Awards. She has previously appeared in cameos in films like "Pootie Tang" and "Shark Tale", as well as a few television episodes.

In addition to her upcoming film debut, Elliott is embarking on her first-ever headlining tour later this year, featuring special guests Ciara, Busta Rhymes and Timbaland. Fans are eagerly anticipating the chance to witness her dynamic performance live.
