2009 ALMA Awards Honorees in TV

ALMA Awards is back for the fourth time to present honors to the Hispanic community specializing in entertainment business. National Council of La Raza's CEO Janet Murguira announced on Tuesday, August 25 with the assistance of Executive Producer Eva Longoria, the names of people crowding the honorees list.

The category in TV is divided into two according to the show's genre, comedy and drama. Showing a domination in the former category is the cast ensemble of "Ugly Betty". Meanwhile in drama, "Lost" and "Dexter" each brought in three of their actors.

Ali Larter and Fiance Hayes MacArthur Get Hitched

Ali Larter and Hayes MacArthur are now husband and wife. The twosome, who has been engaged for almost two years, walked down the aisle in an outdoor ceremony held in Kennebunkport, Maine at the estate of the groom's parents.

Guests arrived at the wedding on trolleys, US Weekly reports. Ali's best friend, fellow actress Amy Smart who co-starred with her in the film that catapulted her to stardom "Varsity Blues" (1999), was seen among the guests. Before the wedding ceremony was kicked off, guests were treated to Irish music which was played in a bid to honor Hayes' heritage. Later on, Ali's father Danforth Larter was seen walking her down the aisle.

Ali Larter and Hayes MacArthur Plan Small Wedding This Weekend

"Heroes" hottie Ali Larter and her actor fiance Hayes MacArthur will be tying the knot in a small wedding ceremony to be held this weekend in Kennebunkport, Maine. The pair, who has been engaged since 2007, will exchange wedding vows at Hayes' family property on Saturday, August 1 with relatives and closest friends witnessing.

According to In Touch Weekly, which is the first to bring the report to the surface, Hayes is inviting his school pals to the nuptials and couldn't be happier about meeting them. He "is really excited to spend time with a lot of his old buddies that he played football with at Bowdoin College in Maine," says a source close to the couple.

Music Winners List of 40th Annual NAACP Image Awards

Winners of this year's NAACP Image Awards in music category have been announced during a live ceremony at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium on February 12. Jennifer Hudson was the one who won big at the annual event, collecting three trophies.

Jennifer claimed her first victory as Outstanding New Artist, beating down Anthony Davis, Jazmine Sullivan, Leona Lewis and Estelle. "This is where we come from," she said when taking the stage to pick up the trophy. "So it's always an honor to come home and feel welcome and to feel the love. I really cherish this and appreciate it."

Clint Eastwood's 'Gran Torino' Speeds Up to Box Office Top

Opening wide across the North America for the first time on Friday, January 9, "Gran Torino" has got a turbo boost at the weekend box office. The suburban drama movie directed and starred by Clint Eastwood has climbed up to the top from the 14th place it was listed a week before by earning $29.5 million.

The more than $29 million bow sets a new record for Eastwood as it is by far the biggest opening of any Eastwood movie in wide release. The 78-year-old actor and director's previous best weekend was the $18-million bow of "Space Cowboys" in 2000. Meanwhile, his recently released "Changeling" has only pulled in $9.4 million during its first wide release weekend.

'Marley and Me' Remains Top Dog at the Box Office

For the second time in a row, "Marley & Me" leads the way at the North America box office. Still leading ahead "Bedtime Stories" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", the dog tale starring Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston collects $24.3 million over the weekend ending Sunday, January 4.

With the additional revenue, it becomes the first Christmas holiday picture to hit the $100 million mark, pulling in a total of $106.7 million after 11 days of screening. Its success in breaking the $100 million milestone also marks Aniston's second consecutive $100 million-plus movie, following her precious hit movie, the 2006's romantic comedy "The Break-Up", which finished with $118.7 million.

Professor Sprout Coming Back for 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows'

"Harry Potter" franchise will welcome back its Professor of the Herbology, Pomona Sprout, in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows". According to This Is South Wales, Miriam Margolyes, the actress who has portrayed the character in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets", has confirmed her return in an interview.

On her involvement, the publication wrote, "Miriam added that she was heading to Australia to appear in a play called Realism and would then return to the UK to play Professor Sprout in the next Harry Potter film." It is still unclear though whether she will be appearing in all two installments, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I" and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II", or only in one of them.

'Soul Men' Debuts First Trailer

The first trailer to Dimension Films latest drama comedy, "Soul Men", has arrived. Focusing on revealing the dynamic between Samuel L. Jackson and Bernie Mac, the trailer highlights on two estranged backup soul-singers, Louis and Floyd, as they travel across the country together once again, experiencing misadventures and reliving the pain of betrayal along the way.

Telling the reunion story of the two remaining members from the popular 70's soul band, The Real Deal, "Soul Men" centers on Floyd Henderson, a retired business man, and Louis Hinds, an ex-convict. When the two find out that their band's lead singer Marcus Hook has recently passed away, they decide to make a musical tribute for their late friend. Taking a road trip to the Apollo Theater for the cause, the estranged duo soon falls into a series of adventures that forced them to realize that they still have the music in them.

Winners of 2008 ALMA Awards in TV Categories

Winners of the 2008 ALMA Awards, which recognize achievements by Hispanic artists, have been announced Sunday, August 17, less than a month after the full nominees were unveiled. ABC's comedy series "Ugly Betty" was a big winner in the TV categories, winning the awards for directing and best performance by a Latino-led ensemble cast. Its star America Ferrera as well took home one additional award which was for the category of Chevy Entertainer of the Year for her on-screen work as Betty Suarez and her off-screen efforts in encouraging young people to get involved in the political process.

TV actress Eva Longoria had her hands full during the awards show, serving both as its executive producer as well as host. She was seen on Friday, August 15 attending an early celebration to mark the coming of the annual awards show held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, Calif. Her basketball player husband Tony Parker was with her.

Syesha Voted Off, American Idol Prepares Battle of the Davids

For the first time ever in American Idol history, the winner for its new season has been known a week prior. It will be David. With contestant Syesha Mercado being voted off on Wednesday, May 14, the battle for the Season 7 winner is left between two Davids, the 17-year-old Utah native David Archuleta and Missouri rocker, David Cook.

Luck did not follow Mercado anymore for after being several times put on the bottom positions and escaped it, the last standing female contestant finally gave up her position after receiving the lowest vote. The singer who was a waitress before the Idol stint, delivered her rendition of Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You" that was judge Randy Jackson's choice, Peggy Lee's "Fever" as her own choice and Gia Farrell's "Hit Me Up" as producer's choice.

7th Season American Idol Top Three Announced

The popular singing competition American Idol that has entered its seventh season has got into its dying stages as now there are only three contestants left to battle for the title. At the result show on May 7 the competition has shown the exit door for another contestant Jason Castro, leaving the likes of David Archuleta, David Cook and Syesha Mercado on the top three.

Jason received the lowest vote following his poor performance at the Idols night on Tuesday, May 6. On that day he sang two songs, Bob Marley's "I Shoot the Sherrif" and Bob Dylan's "Mr Tambourine Man". It was in the second song when he really messed it up as he forgot the lyrics of it.

Competing with Britney Spears, Jim Carrey Jumped Off Bridge for 'Yes Man'

Many Hollywood actors today are doing their own stunt works, but when Jim Carrey is the one to do the stunt, he would do it with a bang. On Monday, January 28, morning, the 46-year-old comedian jumped over an overpass locally known as "Suicide Bridge" for a bungee jump scene in his upcoming comedy project "Yes Man".

Replacing his stuntman, the Golden Globe Award-winning actor who wore a yellow jacket and blue jeans, yelled, "The first time in history that an actor stepped in for a stunt man." Then, while standing on the edge of the bridge and getting himself ready for the 150 feet plunge, the funnyman jokingly quoted Neil Amstrong's famous statement saying, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for comedy. I've never been so regular!"

The 39th Annual NAACP Image Awards Leading Nominees in TV Categories

Nominations were announced Tuesday, January 8 for the 39th Annual National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards. With "The Great Debaters" led the way with eight nominations on the Motion Picture Categories, "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Girlfriends" were both the leading nominees in TV Categories, picked up seven nominations each.

As for "Everybody Hates Chris," the sitcom broadcast on the CW Network, featuring fictional characters and situations broadly based on real people and situations inspired by the teenage experiences of comedian Chris Rock was nominated for the categories of:

Names Enlisted in "The Poker Club"

Marc Anthony Agreed to Pay $2.5 Million in Back Taxes

On the heels of a report stating that the marriage of Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony is on the rock, comes a new report claiming the Salsa singer-songwriter has agreed to pay $2.5 million in back taxes, interest and penalties after failing to file returns for five years.

Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau said Anthony failed to pay taxes for 2000 through 2004 on $US15.5 million in income. The New York-born singer was not charged though because he relied on his accountant to file his tax returns. "He thought that he could rely on his manager and his accountant," Morgenthau said.

Bank-robbery thriller "Inside Man" is the top-grossing weekend film in the North American box office for the week ended Sunday March 26th, 2006. Last week's top movie, the romantic comedy "Failure to Launch" automatically drops one to 2nd place with $15.8 million. Last week's runner-up, "The Shaggy Dog," also slips one place to No. 3 brings in $13.6 million in ticket sales. The Dark Side of A "Desperate Housewive"

In a bid to fix the things up, Teri Hatcher has had the right decision. The "Desperate Housewives" star has on Tuesday March 7, 2006 revealed to Vanity Fair that she was sexually molested by an uncle 35 years ago, but kept the abuse a secret until recently.

In an interview appearing in the magazine's cover story, on newsstands Friday, the 41 years-old actress said how she was haunted by the 2002 suicide of Sarah Van Cleemput, a 14-year-old girl who also was molested by the uncle, Richard Hayes Stone. Afraid that her uncle might avoid prosecution, Hatcher made the decision to tell the prosecutors her own story of sexual abuse and put aside the fears that her claims might be viewed as a bid for attention from a washed-up actress trying to revive her career.

The Sundance Film Festival Lineup

Numbers of famous musicians have been tapped to join the lineup at the Sundance Film Festival, which is going to be held January 20-28 at the Sundance Music Cafe in Park City, Utah. Among those are Rufus Wainwright, Bruce Hornsby, Michael Penn and Savage Garden alumnus Darren Hayes.

Those names will feature at the 8th annual event which is aimed to encourage onscreen collaborations among filmmakers, composers and songwriters.
