'Thor' Gets 'The Office' Actor as the Guardian of Asgard
November 20, 2009 04:11:56Another actor has joined the cast ensemble for adventure movie "Thor". According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures has tapped Idris Elba to play Heimdell. The character is described as the guardian of Asgard, who stands on the BiFrost Bridge and is ready to defend the city from intruders.
Before being slated to appear in the Kenneth Branagh-directed movie, Elba starred opposite Beyonce Knowles in "Obsessed". He will be next seen in the heist thriller "Taken" and will have a turn in Dark Castle's DC Comics adaptation "The Losers". The British actor also has a recurring role as Charles Miner in NBC's hit series "The Office".

The promotional video serves as an introduction to the three major characters in the film, Idris Elba's Derek Charles, Ali Larter's Lisa and Beyonce Knowles' Sharon.
Focusing on the affair between successful asset manager Charles and temp worker Lisa, the trailer begins with the first meeting between the two in a lift. Then, it builds up to show how Lisa starts flirting and tempting Charles. When the tension grows higher, it is revealed that Charles has already had a wife and how Lisa tries to take him away from her and starts to stalk the family.
'RocknRolla' World Premiere Marked by Madonna's Surprising Appearance

Pictures were hosting an eventful evening for their forthcoming "RocknRolla" as the action thriller film rolled down red carpet at the Odeon cinema in West End, London in celebration of its world premiere. Making the special event even more merry, the red carpet saw a surprise appearance from Guy Ritchie's superstar wife, Madonna.
Arriving minutes before the film was screened, the pop legend who was dressed in a short black Stella McCartney dress strolled down the carpet arm-in-arm with her director husband. Beside Madonna and Ritchie, the premiere was also attended by many of the cast ensemble, including Gerard Butler, Thandie Newton, Idris Elba, Geoff Bell, Jimi Mistry, Mark Strong, Tom Wilkinson and Tom Hardy, as well as the film's producers, Joel Silver and Susan Downey.

Going pretty fast in recruiting talents for the flick's cast, filmmakers of "RocknRolla" have delightfully submitted well-known names of Gerard Butler, Idris Elba, Tom Wilkinson, Thandie Newton, and rapper Ludacris as the early lineup of the list.
A caper movie, the project is set in motion when a Russian mobster orchestrates a crooked land deal and millions of dollars are thrown up for grabs, with all of London's criminal underworld players wanting in on the action. Butler is said to play One Two, a street-smart mobster who has learned to play both sides of the fence while Elba will be his partner Mumbles.

Showing its recognition on the full dedication the African Americans and other minorities have shown in entertainment field, Black Entertainment Television network once again has revealed the nominees for its BET Awards in its 7th celebration of the event. The list was announced Wednesday, May 16 by rappers T.I. and 50 Cent, Robin Thicke and Tichina Arnold during a press conference at Hollywood's Renaissance Hotel.
For those working in film field, the network rounds out celebrated names of Jamie Foxx, Idris Elba, Eddie Murphy, Will Smith, and Forest Whitaker to compete for the Best Actor title. As for the opposite category of Best Actress, the contenders include Arnold, Angela Bassett, Kerry Washington, Chandra Wilson, and Jennifer Hudson, who recently swept three prestigious film awards of Oscar, Actors, and Golden Globe.

Ready to construct memorable onscreen team with Brittany Snow, Idris Elba of "The Wire" fame has landed deals to join the Tampa-born actress in "Prom Night", which is set to be produced under Original Films banner for Screen Gems to distribute.
A remake of the 1980 slasher classic directed by Paul Lynch, the project revolves around a group of youth who are stalked by a masked killer at their high school dance. Here Elba will portray a police detective with names like Brianne Davis, Jana Kramer, and Hugh Scott also taking roles.
