The couple was handed the Ruby Dee & Ossie Davis Arts and Humanitarian Award at the Apollo's Spring 2010 Benefit Concert & Awards Ceremony.

Aretha Franklin and late pop superstar Michael Jackson were inducted into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame during the event. Lopez told fans, "This is Marc's old neighbourhood and it's just an amazing thing. We feel like two little kids from New York who've done good."

She also took time to pay tribute to Jackson, who died a year ago in June. The singer/actress said, "Michael is what all of us kind of aim to be."

Franklin also had kind words for her fellow inductee. She called the King of Pop "the prototype for the consummate performer".
