AceShowbiz - Fat Joe secured a partial win in court after a judge found attorney Tyrone Blackburn in contempt due to missed depositions related to an ongoing lawsuit.
Judge Jennifer L. Rochon ruled that Blackburn and his client, Terrance "T.A." Dixon, failed to appear for depositions scheduled in early February. Despite Blackburn notifying opposing counsel that he would not attend, no further steps were taken to address the absence.
The court ordered the defendants to reimburse the plaintiff for the reasonable costs incurred from the missed depositions. The ruling stated, "Defendants are ORDERED to pay Plaintiff the reasonable costs incurred."
Fat Joe's legal team had requested stronger penalties, including coverage of legal fees and possible disciplinary measures against Blackburn, but these were not granted by the judge.
The lawsuit, initiated by Dixon against Fat Joe, has undergone revisions, with current claims focusing on alleged unpaid wages and related disputes between the parties.
The court proceedings have attracted additional scrutiny due to Blackburn's behavior during depositions. At one point, Blackburn remarked, "The medication... does funny things that I don't know. It's messing my head up," while continuing to participate despite apparent difficulties.
Fat Joe publicly commented on the situation, emphasizing that the era of lawyers using their credentials to intimidate clients is over, stating, "The time of lawyers using their law license as a badge to extort people... is over. I'm not the one."
Blackburn has been given a deadline to pay the costs associated with the missed depositions as the legal case proceeds.
