AceShowbiz - The new Clayface movie took center stage at CinemaCon during Warner Bros.’ presentation, unveiling its first gripping footage to an eager audience.
DC Studios president Peter Safran introduced the clip on Tuesday in Las Vegas, offering a glimpse into the film’s unsettling atmosphere. The preview, entirely devoid of dialogue, opens with a mysterious man whose face is obscured by bloodied bandages, hinting at a haunting transformation.
A rapid series of flashbacks reveals key moments that led to this chilling state. The sequence culminates with the film’s lead character, portrayed by Tom Rhys Harries, wiping his face to expose a completely blank, expressionless visage, emphasizing the eerie tone of the story.
Clayface is set to be a horror film centered on the iconic Batman villain known for his shape-shifting abilities. The movie is backed by a modest budget of $40 million, focusing on delivering a tense and atmospheric experience.
Esteemed horror writer Mike Flanagan crafted the screenplay, while the directing reins are held by James Watkins, recognized for his work on See No Evil. Harries takes the lead role, bringing the character to life on screen.
The character of Clayface has a longstanding history in DC Comics, first appearing in 1940, making this adaptation a fresh take on a classic figure.
The production team includes Matt Reeves, director of The Batman, along with producers Lynn Harris and DC Studios leaders James Gunn and Peter Safran. The film is scheduled for release on October 11 and will follow June’s Supergirl in the DC Studios release lineup.
James Watkins secured the directing role in February 2025 after meeting with Gunn and Safran. His recent success with Speak No Evil, featuring James McAvoy in a remake of the 2022 Danish psychological horror-thriller, helped propel him into this project.
This first look at Clayface sets expectations high for a horror-infused exploration of a well-known villain, blending suspense, supernatural elements, and psychological terror.
