AceShowbiz - David Letterman has voiced his opinion regarding CBS's decision to replace The Late Show With Stephen Colbert with Byron Allen's Comics Unleashed. The former host shared his thoughts during an interview.
Letterman helmed The Late Show for over two decades, from 1993 to 2015, before Stephen Colbert took over. Reflecting on the network’s recent move, he said, "They don't want to spend any money, so they're going to make money."
He explained that CBS is charging Byron Allen a reasonable fee to air Comics Unleashed, a show featuring comedians seated and delivering stand-up style humor.
Letterman described the concept as a "pretty good idea," emphasizing the all-panel setup where the comedians perform while seated.
The transition will take place after The Late Show signs off on May 21. Beginning May 22, CBS will air Comics Unleashed in the 11:35 p.m. timeslot, followed by another Byron Allen production, Funny You Should Ask, at 12:35 a.m.
Byron Allen, founder, chairman, and CEO of Allen Media Group, previously commented on the network's pickup of his shows. He stated, "I created and launched Comics Unleashed 20 years ago so my fellow comedians could have a platform to do what we all love - make people laugh." He expressed gratitude for CBS's confidence in airing the two-hour comedy block.
