AceShowbiz - Tim Roth recently discussed the possibility of reprising his role as Emil Blonsky, also known as Abomination, within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), four years after his appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Roth first portrayed the character in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk and returned briefly in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, followed by the 2022 Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, where Blonsky was represented in court by Jennifer Walters.
In a recent interview with Comicbook.com while promoting his new project Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, Roth was asked about Abomination’s future in the MCU. The actor candidly responded, “I don’t know.” Although uncertain about what lies ahead for the character, Roth expressed enthusiasm about his experiences working on the MCU projects.
Roth revealed that being invited to return for She-Hulk came as a surprise but was a welcome opportunity. He especially enjoyed working alongside Tatiana Maslany, who plays Jennifer Walters, and Mark Ruffalo, the actor behind Bruce Banner/Hulk since The Avengers. Roth praised Ruffalo as “one of the funniest guys you’ll work with.”
Regarding a possible future return, Roth stated, “If it pops back up, I’d be happy. It’s such a strange character.” His willingness to revisit Abomination suggests openness to whatever Marvel Studios may have planned next.
The character of Emil Blonsky gains superhuman strength and abilities after being injected with a serum similar to the one that transformed Bruce Banner into the Hulk. Abomination serves as a formidable adversary to the Hulk in their initial showdown in The Incredible Hulk. Despite his defeat, the character was not killed and reappeared years later in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, where he is seen fighting Wong in an underground martial arts tournament.
Following this, Blonsky’s storyline continued in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, where he is under strict orders never to transform into Abomination again. However, after violating his parole, he is arrested and subsequently escapes from prison with Wong’s assistance. The final scenes suggest his fate is tied to Kamar-Taj, leaving his future open-ended.
With She-Hulk: Attorney at Law season 2 unlikely to be ordered by Disney, any further appearances of Blonsky/Abomination would probably come through other MCU films or television series. Roth’s comments reflect the ambiguous status of the character’s trajectory within the sprawling MCU narrative.
While the future of Abomination in the MCU remains uncertain, Tim Roth has made clear his willingness to return should Marvel Studios decide to bring the character back. Fans of the MCU will likely be watching closely for any announcements regarding the fate of one of the franchise’s most enigmatic villains.
