AceShowbiz - The renowned 77-year-old guitarist Carlos Santana was rushed to the hospital after suffering a health emergency just before a scheduled concert in San Antonio, Texas.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 22 during a soundcheck at the Majestic Theatre. According to Santana's manager Michael Vrionis, the medical event was a result of dehydration.
Vrionis elaborated, "Mr. Santana was at the Majestic Theater in San Antonio preparing for tonight's show when he experienced an event that was determined to be dehydration. Out of an abundance of caution and the health of Mr. Santana, the decision to postpone the show was the most prudent course of action."
Eyewitnesses reported that the legendary musician was taken out on a gurney and subsequently transported to a hospital by ambulance. Despite the alarming turn of events, Vrionis assured fans, "He is doing well and is looking forward to coming back to San Antonio soon as well as continuing his US Tour."
This is not the first time Santana's health has impacted his performances. Just last year, he collapsed during a concert in Michigan due to heat exhaustion and dehydration.
In January, he also had to postpone parts of his Las Vegas residency after suffering an accidental fall at his home in Hawaii, which resulted in a broken finger that required pins to be inserted.
The guitarist's recent health scare comes after performing in challenging weather conditions in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Just hours before the incident, Santana had shared his gratitude on Facebook, thanking his fans "for showing up with such beautiful energy and love in the cold & rain."
He added, “You danced, you sang, and you braved the elements like true warriors of light. Your warmth and passion lit up the night more than any spotlight ever could. It was truly an honor to share our hearts music with you."
Despite this setback, Santana intends to proceed with his tour, with upcoming performances scheduled in Sugar Land, Texas, and Thackerville, Oklahoma. Fans are encouraged to hold onto their tickets for the rescheduled San Antonio show.
Carlos Santana's illustrious career spans decades, dating back to his breakout performance at the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Festival. Over the years, he has evolved musically from his Latin-inspired rock roots to incorporating jazz fusion, collaborating with numerous legends in the jazz world. His 1999 album "Supernatural," featuring the hit single "Smooth," catapulted him back to the top of the charts.
Santana has vowed to return stronger, emphasizing the importance of health and the need to give his fans "150 percent" in performances. While this latest health scare may have momentarily sidelined him, his spirit and commitment to music remain undeterred.
