Following a record-breaking first season, 'The Golden Bachelor' is set to return, with former NFL player-turned-lawyer Mel Owens stepping into the spotlight in his quest for love.

AceShowbiz - "The Golden Bachelor" is back for the sophomore set. After a successful debut, the show's second season has been officially renewed by ABC, featuring Mel Owens as the new leading man.

Mel Owens is a 66-year-old former NFL linebacker and current lawyer. Born and raised in Detroit, Owens graduated from the University of Michigan and was drafted ninth overall in the 1981 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams. He had a notable nine-year career before retiring in 1991 due to an injury.

After hanging up his cleats, Owens pursued a legal career in Orange County, California, where he specialized in justice for sports-related injuries. During this period, he married and had two sons although his marriage eventually ended. Owens focused on raising his sons and coaching their sports teams, embodying the role of a dedicated father.

ABC describes Owens as ready to "rediscover a love rooted in the simple joys of companionship" and is seeking a partner who shares this sentiment. His selection marks a departure from the franchise's typical casting process, often involving previous season contestants.

The inaugural season of "The Golden Bachelor", featuring Gerry Turner, enjoyed immense popularity, marking a three-year high in total viewers for any "Bachelor" show. Turner's engagement to Theresa Nist and their subsequent televised wedding added to the excitement, although they later divorced.

With a fresh season on the horizon, viewers eagerly await the premiere date and additional cast announcements. "The Golden Bachelor" Season 1 is now streaming on Hulu, with the second season set for the 2025-26 TV season.
