AceShowbiz - "The Hunger Games" fans alike are buzzing with excitement as Elle Fanning is being eyed to portray a younger version of Effie Trinket. This character, previously brought to life by Elizabeth Banks in the original "Hunger Games" series, will now receive a fresh portrayal.
According to Nexus Point News, Fanning's character will appear 24 years prior to the events of the initial film, during the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.
"The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping" will be directed by franchise veteran Francis Lawrence, who has helmed every "Hunger Games" movie since 2013's "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire."
Lawrence's deep understanding of the series is expected to bring authenticity and depth to the prequel. This film will delve into the past of Panem, charting the adventures of a young Haymitch Abernathy, the character originated by Woody Harrelson.
The prequel promises to offer a new perspective on the intricate machinations of Panem's dystopian society, with Haymitch's storyline providing a compelling narrative for audiences.
Fanning, who recently lit up the screen in Bob Dylan biopic "A Complete Unknown" alongside Timothee Chalamet, will next appear in "Predator: Badlands," directed by Dan Trachtenberg and slated for release on November 7. This role as Effie Trinket adds another exciting chapter to her burgeoning career.
Despite the buzz, Lionsgate representatives have yet to issue an official statement regarding Fanning's casting.
Mark your calendars as "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping" is expected to hit theaters on November 20, 2026. This prequel promises to revisit and redefine the rich universe of "The Hunger Games."
