AceShowbiz - Alec Baldwin's long-awaited film "Rust" is finally reaching audiences, with the release of its first trailer. Set in 1880s Wyoming, Baldwin, 67, portrays Harland Rust, an infamous outlaw who emerges from the shadows to rescue his 13-year-old grandson, portrayed by Patrick Scott McDermott.
The young boy faces a death sentence after an accidental killing, leading to a thrilling pursuit towards Mexico with U.S. Marshal Wood Helm (Josh Hopkins) and the menacing bounty hunter "Preacher" (Travis Fimmel) hot on their trail.
Frances Fisher and Jake Busey also star in this Western directed by Joel Souza and co-written with Baldwin.
"Rust" was infamous for the fatal shooting that claimed the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on set in 2021.
The tragedy struck when a prop gun held by Baldwin discharged, killing Hutchins and injuring Souza. This incident halted production and led to high-profiled investigations.
Baldwin faced involuntary manslaughter charges, maintaining his innocence by denying he pulled the trigger or knew about the live ammunition in the gun. The charges were dropped in April 2023 after his legal team argued that prosecutors had withheld evidence.
On the other hand, Rust's armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who's responsible for handling the weapons on set was found guilty and received an 18-month prison sentence.
Despite this dark chapter, production eventually resumed, wrapping up in 2023. Bianca Cline, who stepped in to complete the film's cinematography, lauded Hutchins' artistry.
She stated, "I'm in awe of how much people admired her and just how talented she is. I think that cinematographers sometimes get relegated to being seen as technicians, but I think that Halyna elevated it to an art."
"Rust" is described by Melina Spadone, a representative of Rust Movie Productions LLC, as "a heartfelt and emotional story forged in the struggles of the new frontier - a story of the ripples that a single violent act can send through generations and the hard-fought redemption to be found in a world where the line between good and evil can often be unclear."
Finally, "Rust" is set to hit select theaters nationwide and will be available on digital platforms starting May 2, offering audiences a chance to witness this poignant, historically set drama that encapsulates the peril and promise of the American Frontier.
