AceShowbiz - Former child star Christy Carlson Romano, 40, is recuperating from injury after being shot in the eye during her husband Brendan Rooney's birthday celebration on Friday, February 7. Romano was shooting clay pigeons when she was hit by a bullet fired "unsafely in the wrong direction" by "another party," according to her Instagram post.
Romano was struck in five places, with one bullet coming within an inch of her right eye. Despite the severity of the injury, she assures fans she is "safe" and can see normally. However, a fragment remains stuck in her eye, and another is lodged in her forehead.
Romano explained that the fragment behind her eye is "too risky to remove surgically at this time." She is being monitored by doctors and will continue to receive medical attention.
Romano expressed her gratitude for the first responders and medical staff who assisted her, as well as her husband, who "immediately sprung into action, assessed me, and rushed me to the hospital."
"I'm very grateful to first responders as a whole," she said in an Instagram video. "They're the most amazing, superhero people to take care of us at our most desperate times."
Romano was grateful to survive the terrifying ordeal. "With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive," she wrote. "I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much."
Romano's husband, Brendan Rooney, shared a message of support in the comments of her video. "You are the bravest, toughest, most stoic and badass woman I have ever met," he wrote. "I am so thankful you are alive. I am so thankful you are the mother to our children."
