'Emilia Perez' star Karla Sofia Gascon has withdrawn from upcoming high-profiled award shows because of controversy surrounding her past social media posts.

AceShowbiz - "Emilia Perez" star Karla Sofia Gascon will miss several upcoming award shows in light of controversies surrounding her resurfaced social media posts.

Gascón, 52, is skipping the 2025 Critics Choice Awards on Friday, February 7 in Los Angeles, as well as the Producers Guild Awards on Saturday, February 8, where she was scheduled to present.

"Emilia Pérez" received 10 nominations, including best actress for Gascon, at the Critics Choice Awards. She is also nominated for her performance at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on February 23 and became the first openly transgender actor nominated for an Academy Award.

The controversy stems from the Twitter posts Gascón made between 2016 and 2021 containing controversial remarks about Muslim, George Floyd, Oscars diversity, and more. Gascón later addressed the backlash, saying she's "lost in [her] transition" when she made the posts.

Despite calls to step down, Gascón defiantly refused to renounce her Oscar nomination. She is vying for the Best Actress title against Cynthia Erivo, Mikey Madison, Demi Moore, and Fernanda Torres.

Netflix, which has distribution rights to the film, has since pulled Gascon out of its awards campaign and shifted its focus to Zoe Saldana's Supporting Actress nomination, Best Picture, and Best Song chances. The streaming giant has also reportedly decided against covering her travel and accommodation expenses for award events.

For now, whether Gascón will attend the SAG Awards on February 23 or the Oscars on March 2 remains unclear. In her most recent statement, the actress was determined to stay in the industry and continue making art despite the controversies.
