On his 70th birthday, acclaimed actor Kevin Costner took a heartfelt moment to cherish the memory of his late friend and 'The Bodyguard' co-star Whitney Houston.

AceShowbiz - Kevin Costner celebrated his 70th birthday by paying tribute to his late friend and co-star Whitney Houston. On January 18, Costner shared a throwback behind-the-scenes photo from the set of their iconic 1992 romantic thriller, "The Bodyguard". The photo features Costner, Houston, and her hairstylist, Ellin La Var.

"This photo reminds me of how lucky I am to be getting another birthday," Costner wrote in his Instagram story as he shared the image originally posted on Whitney's Instagram page which was managed by her estate. "We lost such a light when we lost Whitney."

"The Bodyguard," which starred Costner as a former Secret Service agent protecting pop star Rachel Marron (played by Houston), is a beloved classic that earned two Academy Award nominations for Best Original Song in 1993. The chemistry between Costner and Houston on set was palpable, turning the film into a box-office hit and solidifying their professional and personal bond.

Throughout the years, Costner has been open about his affection and admiration for Houston. During a June 2024 episode of the "Armchair Expert" podcast, he reminisced about working with the legendary singer. "I loved her - it's not like this giant mystery - so I knew that she should be the one," he said, recalling his conviction that she was perfect for the role despite initial hesitance from the film's director, Mick Jackson.

Costner revealed that he took on a guiding role for Houston during the movie's production, ensuring she felt supported. "I wasn't trying to usurp my director, but I had made a promise to her, not to f***ing him," he said. "I was always gonna keep my promise to her."

At Houston's funeral service in 2012, Costner delivered a heartfelt eulogy, encouraging mourners to celebrate her memory. "Whitney returns home today to the place where it all began," he told those gathered. "And I urge us all, inside and outside, across the nation and around the world to dry our tears, suspend our sorrow - and perhaps our anger - just long enough, just long enough to remember the sweet miracle of Whitney."
