As Hoda Kotb officially left 'Today', Savannah Guthrie marks the beginning of a new chapter on the NBC breakfast show alongside Craig Melvin with a playful and emotional send-off.

AceShowbiz - During a recent appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," Savannah Guthrie humorously recounted clearing out Hoda Kotb's belongings after the latter left NBC's "Today" show last week. "It's a new era. It's the Craig era," Guthrie quipped, referring to Craig Melvin, who is replacing Kotb.

Guthrie revealed she found various odds and ends left behind by Kotb, from expired bean dip to belly button lint. "Guess you didn't want any of this s***," she joked in a video recorded for Kotb. Guthrie, maintaining a light-hearted tone, described the tray containing these items as having "rust and barnacles on it."

Kotb's departure marks the end of her 26-year tenure with NBC, during which she and Guthrie formed not only a trusted professional relationship but a deep friendship. They anchored "Today" together since 2017, following Matt Lauer's termination over sexual harassment allegations.

Kotb, who turned 60 last year, cited her desire to spend more time with her daughters, Haley and Hope, as a critical factor in her decision to leave. She has plans to focus on her wellness app and company, which will feature trips, podcasts, and other personalized experiences.

Nevertheless, Kotb will still contribute to NBC, handling exclusive interviews and covering the next two Olympics, in addition to making occasional appearances on "Today" and Jenna Bush Hager's new show, "Today With Jenna & Friends."

Guthrie expressed her sadness at the loss of her friend on-air back in September when Kotb announced her exit. During her final show on January 10, Kotb, tearfully, thanked her colleagues and viewers.

Guthrie, equally emotional, reassured Kotb of their lasting friendship and support. "Hoda, I love you deeply. Like I always tell you: Whether you sit next to me or not, whether we get up at 4 a.m. or not, I will always be by your side and you will always be by mine," Guthrie said.

Al Roker, another "Today" co-anchor, praised Kotb for her selflessness, recounting her supportive presence during his health challenges. As Kotb steps into a new chapter, Guthrie and Melvin take on the mantle, beginning a new era on the beloved morning show while honoring the legacy and friendship left behind.
