AceShowbiz - Sunny Hostin, the co-host of "The View," has vehemently denied allegations of insurance fraud against her husband, Dr. Emmanuel Hostin. American Transit, an insurance group that primarily works with ride-share drivers, filed a 698-page lawsuit naming Dr. Hostin among nearly 200 defendants, alleging fraudulent billing and kickback schemes.
In a statement obtained by Entertainment Weekly, Hostin claims that American Transit is "on the verge of bankruptcy" and is attempting to "poison the well of public opinion" by naming her husband.
She accuses the company of using her celebrity status to intimidate her family and avoid paying medical expenses. Hostin states that American Transit has a history of filing frivolous claims and has been investigated by New York State.
Hostin's attorney calls the suit a "meritless lawsuit by a near-bankrupt insurance carrier." He claims American Transit is trying to "intimidate and harass doctors from collecting for care given to American Transit insureds and their passengers."
Hostin and her husband plan to file a $5 million countersuit for defamation and demand that American Transit withdraw the allegations, pay Dr. Hostin what he is owed, and issue a public apology.
American Transit's attorney, William Natbony, maintains that the lawsuit is part of their statutory responsibility to fight no-fault fraud. He denies any improper conduct by American Transit or its counsel.
Hostin concludes her statement by condemning insurance companies like American Transit for making the healthcare system difficult to navigate. She warns that they "will receive a PHD from FAFO University," a reference to the phrase "f*** around and find out."
