AceShowbiz - Chelsea Handler doesn't regret dissing her ex, comedian Jo Koy, especially in the context of his infamous Golden Globes monologue in 2024. Speaking with Parade, Handler, 49, acknowledged how she would have criticized anyone for shifting blame to their writers.
"Listen, I would've done that had anybody thrown their writers under a bus. I know more than anybody how valuable writers are. My whole life and my whole career is because I have great writers," she explained.
Koy, 53, secured the Golden Globes hosting gig just ten days prior to the ceremony. Unfortunately, his performance didn't land well with audiences or critics. Calling the gig "a hard job" and the A-list audience "a tough crowd," he shifted the blame to his writers, which included jokes about Robert De Niro's newborn child and Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" film.
Handler wasn't shy about addressing the incident while she hosted the Critics' Choice Awards the same year. She joked about her dating preference, and in response to people's laughter, she quipped, "Thank you for laughing at that. My writers wrote it," in an apparent move to shade her ex.
The two comedians dated in 2021 but ended their relationship nearly a year later. Despite the breakup, Handler has taken a positive stance, stating on social media that Koy "renewed my faith in men." She also "The first mature ending to a relationship that I was in...my behavior was mature and graceful."
Looking forward, Handler is set to host the Critics' Choice Awards again on January 12, while Nikki Glaser is preparing to host the 82nd Annual Golden Globes on January 5. Glaser is approaching her hosting duties with caution, noting, "I've made a point not to...pull a Ricky Gervais. This isn't my last Golden Globes, this is my first one."
