Authorities in Argentina are bringing charges ranging from manslaughter to drug supply against five individuals in connection with One Direction singer's untimely demise.

AceShowbiz - Five people have been charged in Argentina with roles in the tragic death of Liam Payne, who fell from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires on October 16. Payne's sudden and shocking passing has left fans and the world grappling for answers.

According to a press release from Argentina's National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's office, the hotel's manager Gilda Martin (GAM), receptionist Esteban Grassi (ERG), and Payne's friend Roger Nores (RLN) have been charged with manslaughter.

These charges stem from allegations that they failed to ensure Payne's safety despite noticing his compromised state due to substance abuse. Specifically, "ERG" is accused of having requested that Payne be "dragged" to his room instead of ensuring he was kept in a safe environment.

In addition, Ezequiel Pereyra (EDP), a hotel employee, and Braian Paiz (BNP), a waiter, are facing charges for supplying Payne with cocaine. They both admitted to providing the substance to Payne on multiple occasions just days before his death. These defendants could face sentences of four to fifteen years if found guilty.

The former One Direction member was reportedly in an altered state of consciousness resulting from the consumption of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant at the time of his fall. The charges now point fingers not only at Payne's entourage but also at the hotel staff for their gross negligence.

Judge Laura Bruniard, who is processing the case, pointed out that the individuals charged with manslaughter created a risk leading to Payne's death, albeit without the intention to harm him. "They did not imagine the outcome, but they created a legally disapproved risk," the judge noted.

The defendants' lawyers have the option to appeal, but if the appeals are not granted, the case will proceed to trial. The public remains deeply invested in the outcome, hoping for justice for Payne, who had openly struggled with substance abuse and mental health issues.

Liam Payne's tragic death is a poignant reminder of the ongoing battles many confront in private, even amidst the glare of fame. His former bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson attended his funeral, which served as a solemn farewell to a troubled yet beloved artist.
