Exciting news is brewing for Batman fans! Warner Bros. is reportedly working on a new animated trilogy based on the iconic 'Batman: Knightfall' comic series.

AceShowbiz - As the sequel to Robert Pattinson's Batman movie is delayed with James Gunn saying the script is still unfinished, recent filings with the Entertainment Identifier Registry (EIDR) system have revealed that Warner Bros. Discovery is developing a new animated Batman trilogy entitled "Batman: Knightfall." The EIDR is an online database that tracks metadata for audiovisual content.

The filing reveals that the first part of the trilogy, "Batman: Knightfall: Part 1," is in the works. The original comic book story, published in 1993, was divided into three parts: "Knightfall", "Knightquest", and "KnightsEnd". The EIDR filing suggests that the animated trilogy will follow the same format.

The "Batman: Knightfall" comic book revolves around the villain Bane breaking Batman's back and weakening him. In the aftermath, a new person takes over the mantle of Batman, Jean-Paul Valley, aka Azrael. Azrael's harsh methods lead to conflict with the recovered Bruce Wayne, who eventually reclaims the role.

Jeff Wamester, who directed several films in the now-defunct Tomorrowverse animated DC universe, is helming the new trilogy. No release date has been officially confirmed, but the EIDR filing lists 2024 as a placeholder.

The development of a Batman: Knightfall animated trilogy is significant as it is one of the most iconic Batman stories that has yet to be fully adapted. The trilogy could offer fans a fresh take on the classic tale, exploring the themes of resilience, redemption, and the complexities of the Batman mythos.

However, it is important to note that the animated adaptation may differ from the original comic book, as has been the case with previous animated Batman films.
