During the season 12 finale, which aired on December 8, FOX unveiled the upcoming season’s theme via a captivating TV spot, "Lucky 13".
The TV spot gave fans an exciting sneak peek of some of the imaginative costumes they can look forward to. This includes a birdhouse, the Loch Ness monster, a space cowboy, a bat, a honeycomb, pearls, a regal bird and a camera. Entertainment Weekly also teased that there will be "special unmaskings with its all-new 'Lucky 13' theme," promising a season packed with surprises.
One of the show's new characters, aptly named Lucky Duck, made an appearance in the teaser, hinting at his mischievous role in the upcoming season. According to FOX, Lucky Duck will "pop in throughout the season to offer cheeky and luck-related clues." His identity will be revealed at the end of the season, and he is speculated to have a special connection to someone on the show, although specifics are still under wraps.
The finale of season 12 was a showstopper that featured a holiday performance by season 5 winner Nick Lachey, who donned the Piglet costume to sing "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year". The finalists, Wasp and the trio the Buffalos, gave it their all with performances of "When I Was Your Man", "Somebody That I Used to Know", "I'm Your Baby Tonight" and "Too Good at Goodbyes". In a thrilling conclusion, the Buffalos trio emerged victorious, becoming the first group to win the coveted Golden Mask Trophy in the show's history. They were unmasked as Boyz II Men members Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman. The runner-up, Wasp, was revealed to be R&B singer Mario.
The anticipation for season 13 is further heightened with the confirmation that panelists Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg, Rita Ora, Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke will return, along with host Nick Cannon.
