AceShowbiz - Olivia Rodrigo, the 21-year-old pop icon, is proving that giving back is the ultimate "good 4 u." As her "Guts World Tour" nears its conclusion, Rodrigo announced a generous donation of over $2 million from her tour's net proceeds to support women and girls globally. This sum will be allocated through her philanthropic initiative, Fund 4 Good, launched to ensure an equitable and just future for women through education, reproductive rights and the prevention of gender-based violence.
The funds will benefit 10 organizations, including the National Network of Abortion Funds in the United States, Women's Shelters Canada, Women Against Violence Europe, The Pratthanadee Foundation in Thailand, Korea Foundation for Women, Harmony House Limited in Hong Kong, NPO Women's Saya-Saya in Japan, Aidha in Singapore, Jhpiego in the Philippines, and Wesnet in Australia. These charities align closely with the mission of Fund 4 Good, working tirelessly to champion women's rights and wellbeing.
Rodrigo, recently named Billboard's Touring Artist of 2024, has been vocal about her commitment to supporting women's causes from the get-go. "Being on tour [so soon] after Roe v. Wade got overturned made activism very important - especially considering I performed in many states that currently have abortion bans in place," she shared. Her contributions included directing part of the proceeds from North American tour stops to the National Network of Abortion Funds, where local abortion rights groups set up interactive tents for concert-goers.
The tour, which spanned over 60 cities across more than 20 countries, saw Rodrigo connecting deeply with fans and causes alike. One especially poignant moment was her performance in the Philippines, marking her first visit to her paternal homeland. "This is such a special milestone for me to not only be visiting the Philippines for the first time but performing here for my fans," Rodrigo expressed. All net ticket proceeds from her sold-out show in the Philippines were directed to Jhpiego, supporting healthcare efforts for women and girls in the region.
Rodrigo's commitment to reproductive healthcare was unmistakable. In an October interview, she emphasized the importance of her Fund 4 Good initiative in raising awareness and resources for women's issues. "Lots of the money is going to abortion funds to help provide some resources to people who are in need of reproductive healthcare," she told PEOPLE.
Throughout her "Guts World Tour", Olivia Rodrigo not only captivated audiences with her music but also utilized her platform to advocate for crucial women's rights, leaving each stop better than she found it.
