'Memento' actor hopes for a reunion with Chris Nolan after the director ditched WB for Universal, claiming that he has been blackballed by an executive at WB for years.

AceShowbiz - For over two decades, Hollywood actor Guy Pearce has been waiting for another shot to collaborate with director Christopher Nolan. Despite their successful partnership on the critically acclaimed film "Memento," a roadblock kept Pearce from appearing in Nolan's subsequent projects. Now, with new opportunities on the horizon, Pearce is optimistic about finally reuniting with the celebrated director.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Pearce revealed that an executive at Warner Bros. consistently blocked him from being cast in multiple Nolan films following "Memento."
Pearce explained, "There was an executive at Warner Bros. who quite openly said to my agent, 'I don't get Guy Pearce. I'm never going to get Guy Pearce. I'm never going to employ Guy Pearce.' So, in a way, that's good to know. I mean, fair enough; there are some actors I don't get. But it meant I could never work with Chris."
Nolan, who has a reputation for directing some of the most intellectually stimulating films of our time, didn't let the executive's opinion influence him. Pearce shared that Nolan spoke to him about roles over the years, including the lead in "The Prestige" and a major part in "Batman Begins." However, none of these discussions materialized into actual roles due to the Warner Bros. executive's disapproval.
Pearce recounted a particular incident when he was flown to London to discuss the role of Henri Ducard/Ra's al Ghul for "Batman Begins." "I think it was decided on my flight that I wasn't going to be in the movie," Pearce said. "So I get there and Chris is like, 'Hey, you want to see the Batmobile and get dinner?' " Ultimately, the role went to actor Liam Neeson.
Despite facing these professional obstacles, Pearce has only kind words for Nolan. Describing the director, Pearce stated, "It's hard to compete with Chris Nolan. He's such a towering intellect." He also had positive remarks about his "Memento" co-star Carrie-Anne Moss, calling her good fun and reminiscing about her sense of humor.
Nolan's collaborative relationship with Warner Bros. lasted until 2020, leading to many blockbuster hits like "The Dark Knight" trilogy and "Inception." Famously, the director moved to Universal in 2021, where he released the Oscar-winning film "Oppenheimer." With Nolan no longer tied to Warner Bros., Pearce jested, "So now my time has come!"
As Pearce prepares for the release of his latest film, "The Brutalist," and keeps his fingers crossed for a future project with Nolan, fans are hopeful that these two brilliant minds will once again create cinematic magic together.
