AceShowbiz - While speaking to Time magazine as their 2024 Icon of the Year, Elton John expressed his strong opposition to marijuana legalization. "I maintain that it's addictive," he said. "It leads to other drugs." Drawing from his own struggles with cocaine addiction, John emphasized that marijuana can impair clear thinking and lead to poor decision-making.
"And when you're stoned - and I've been stoned - you don't think normally," the legendary musician added. "Legalizing marijuana in America and Canada is one of the greatest mistakes of all time."
John has actively supported others in their recovery from addiction, serving as Eminem's sponsor and arranging Robbie Williams' first rehabilitation stint. However, he was unable to assist George Michael in this regard.
John's stance stems from his belief that drugs can distort perceptions and hinder personal growth. "You make terrible decisions on drugs," he said. "I wanted love so badly, I'd just take hostages."
Despite his health challenges, including recent vision loss, John remains committed to his sobriety and advocating against drug use. "Legalizing marijuana in America and Canada is one of the greatest mistakes of all time," he declared.
