AceShowbiz - Donnie Wahlberg has expressed his profound admiration for the movie musical "Wicked", admitting to being deeply moved by the performance. In a video shared by his wife Jenny McCarthy on social media, Wahlberg is seen crying audibly as the end credits roll.
"Which one of us is bawling their eyes out?" McCarthy asks in the video, as Wahlberg struggles to compose himself. "Don't do it," Wahlberg says between sobs.
McCarthy's video sparked an outpouring of empathy on social media, with many expressing similar reactions. Bowen Yang, a cast member of "Saturday Night Live" who appears in "Wicked", had previously hinted at the film's emotional impact.
"All of us were in shambles by the end," Yang told PEOPLE. "Sarah Sherman was sobbing... I've never been a part of something like that."
"Wicked", starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, has received critical acclaim and box office success since its November 22 premiere. Directed by Jon M. Chu, the film grossed over $455 million worldwide.
Its awards season potential is promising, having been named Best Film by the National Board of Review and ranked among the top 10 films of 2024 by the American Film Institute. The musical's two-part structure appears to be a successful strategy, but Wahlberg may need to prepare for another emotional rollercoaster when "Wicked Part Two" premieres in November 2025.
