AceShowbiz - In 2018, following the Time's Up movement and resurfaced sexual assault allegations by Dylan Farrow, Rebecca Hall expressed profound regret for collaborating with Woody Allen on "A Rainy Day in New York". She donated her salary from the film to the organization and stated that reading Farrow's statements made her realize she had silenced and dismissed a woman.
However, in a recent interview with The Guardian, Hall revealed she now "kind of regrets" her initial apology. She feels that actors should not be held responsible for speaking out on situations involving their collaborators and that her focus should be on her art.
Hall acknowledged that she experienced a "tangle" while working on "A Rainy Day in New York" during the Weinstein scandal. She felt the need to believe women's accounts and redress the imbalance, but realized her statement became misconstrued as another denunciation of Allen.
Hall emphasized that she does not regret working with Allen, who provided her with job opportunities and treated her kindly. She believes it is not the responsibility of actors to act as judges or juries in such situations. If she faced the same choice today, she would opt to remain silent and focus on her craft.
Hall admitted that she no longer communicates with Allen but maintained that she does not hold a negative view of him. She believes that actors should be artists and not be expected to constantly make public statements about their beliefs.
