AceShowbiz - Grammy-winning artist SZA has never shied away from discussing personal challenges. In her recent interview with British Vogue, she opened up about her decision to undergo a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) and why she now views it as a regretful decision.
"I'm so mad I did that," she confessed. "I gained all this weight from being immobile while recovering and trying to preserve the fat. It was just so stupid."
Despite her frustrations, SZA maintains a nuanced perspective. While she acknowledges that the procedure was unnecessary, she also appreciates the results. "But who gives a f**k? You got a BBL, you realize you didn't need the s**t. It doesn't matter. I'll do a whole bunch more s**t just like it if I want to before I'm f**king dead because this body is temporary," she stated.
For SZA, prioritizing her mental health could have been a wiser choice. "It just wasn't super necessary - I have other s**t that I need to work on about myself… I need to get my f**king mental health together. Not to say you can't do those things simultaneously, just, for me, I realize wherever you go, there you'll be," she reflected.
Still, SZA celebrates the confidence boost that came with the surgery's results. "But I love my butt. Don't get me wrong. My booty looks nice. And I'm grateful that it looks pretty much… I don't know, sometimes natural, but I don't even care. It's something that I wanted. I'm enjoying it. I love shaking it," she shared.
This isn't SZA's first experience with regretting cosmetic procedures. During an appearance on the "S.H.E. MD" podcast earlier this year, she described the painful journey she endured with breast implants, which she eventually had to remove due to issues with scar tissue and discomfort.
Beyond cosmetic enhancements, SZA also discussed the emotional toll of fame on her mental health. She revealed, "Every day I grapple with, 'Am I done with music?' Maybe I'm just not meant to be famous - I'm crashing and burning and behaving erratically. It's not for me because I have so much anxiety."
However, despite her struggles, SZA continues to persevere, propelled by the belief that her role as a prominent artist has a greater purpose. "But why would God put me in this position if I wasn't supposed to be doing this? So I just keep trying to rise to the occasion. But I'm also just like, 'Please, the occasion is beating my a**,' " she concluded.
Her latest album, "SOS", released in 2022, stands as a testament to her resilience and undeniable talent, producing hit singles like "Snooze" and "Kill Bill" that topped the Billboard charts.
SZA's honesty about her decisions and the candid expression of her battles offer a sobering reminder about the complexities of self-image and mental health in the age of cosmetic surgery and social media.
