AceShowbiz - Singer Rita Ora, who hosted the MTV Europe Music Awards in Manchester on Sunday, led a heartfelt tribute to late One Direction member Liam Payne, who died last month at the age of 31.
Ora, who collaborated with Payne on the 2018 single "For You", broke down in tears as she spoke of Payne's kindness and positive impact. She described him as "one of the kindest people I knew" and said, "He had the biggest heart and was always the first person to offer help in any way that he could."
Payne's body has been flown back to England ahead of a private funeral service. His passing has hit female fans who grew up with One Direction particularly hard.
Ora's tribute was followed by a video montage of Payne singing the One Direction song "Night Changes". The crowd observed a moment of silence in remembrance of the singer.
Other winners at the awards included Taylor Swift, who picked up four trophies, and South African singer Tyla, who won three. Pop megastar Ariana Grande won best pop award, and rapper Eminem triumphed in the best hip-hop category. The global icon award went to US rapper Busta Rhymes, and the pop pioneers award was presented to British electro-pop duo Pet Shop Boys.
