AceShowbiz - Rashida Jones remembers her late father, Quincy Jones, who passed away peacefully at the age of 91. In an emotional Instagram post, the "Parks and Recreation" actress, 48, shared a touching photo of herself as an infant nestled against her father, capturing the essence of their close bond.
"My dad was nocturnal his whole adult life. He kept 'jazz hours' starting in high school and never looked back," Rashida reminisced. "When I was little, I would wake up in the middle of the night to search for him. Undoubtedly, he would be somewhere in the house, composing (old school, with a pen and sheet music). He would never send me back to bed. He would smile and bring me into his arms while he continued to work…there was no safer place in the world for me."
The legacy of Quincy Jones as a "giant, an icon, a culture shifter, and a genius" is beautifully captured in Rashida's words. "All accurate descriptions of my father but his music (and ALL of his work) was a channel for his love. He WAS love. He made everyone he ever met feel loved and seen. That's his legacy."
Her heartfelt message continued, expressing her deep gratitude and respect, "I was fortunate enough to experience this love in close proximity. I'll miss his hugs and kisses and unconditional devotion and advice. Daddy, it is an honor to be your daughter. Your love lives forever."
Quincy Jones' illustrious career spanned over 75 years, with monumental achievements such as producing Michael Jackson's historic "Thriller" album, earning 28 Grammy Awards, and working with various icons including Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, and Paul Simon. He broke racial barriers by becoming the first African-American VP at a major label and the first Black composer to receive name recognition for his film work.
Quincy's profound impact on music and culture is a testament to his genius and humanitarian spirit. His family, including seven children and multiple grandchildren, take comfort in knowing that Quincy's heart beats eternally through the love and joy he shared with the world. His passing marks the end of an era, but his legacy will undoubtedly inspire future generations.
