AceShowbiz - Netflix has reportedly delayed the release of its upcoming talent show series "Building the Band", which featured Liam Payne as a mentor. The decision was made in light of Payne's tragic death in October.
According to sources, the streaming service will meet with Payne's family to discuss the potential release of the series at a later date. "There is no rush or pressure to release the series," said a source. "It would simply be a beautiful tribute to Liam and capture him at his best in the months before his death."
In "Building the Band", Payne served as a mentor alongside Pussycat Dolls alum Nicole Scherzinger and Destiny's Child singer Kelly Rowland. The show aimed to form the next great music group based on compatibility and merit, without any of the members seeing each other before joining the band.
Filming for the series wrapped up in August, but no release date had been announced prior to Payne's death. A preliminary toxicology analysis revealed that the singer had multiple drugs in his system at the time of his passing.
Sources previously told The Hollywood Reporter that the series producers were shocked by the news of Payne's death and it was too soon to make any decisions about the competition show. Now, it has been claimed that the series has not been shelved and that Netflix will meet with Payne's family to discuss a potential release in the future.
The insider added that the death of Payne has left everyone at the company "devastated" and that there is no pressure to release the series just yet. However, they believe that it could become a fitting tribute to the star when it does eventually come out.
"Everyone involved is devastated and their heart goes out to his family," said the source. "There is no rush or pressure to release the series. It would simply be a beautiful tribute to Liam and capture him at his best in the months before his death."
