Cassidy's friend told The Post that Payne was adamant about wanting her to stay, and the exchange was more heated than anticipated. "He didn't want Kate to leave Argentina," the friend stated.

Although their trip was initially planned for five days, it stretched to two weeks, pushing Cassidy's patience to its limits. "He gave her no indication of when he'd be ready to leave. So, she took things into her own hands and got herself a ticket home," the friend continued.

Before leaving, Cassidy shared a now-deleted Snapchat video where Payne teased her, saying, "So it's going to be a nice day, and then, you're going home. Ha ha, loser, weirdo."

Despite the playful tone, Payne's mood darkened significantly after her departure. Reports later revealed that Payne had partied with prostitutes in his hotel room and had a heated argument with one of them over payment mere hours before his fatal fall.

The couple had traveled to Buenos Aires to support Payne's former bandmate, Niall Horan, at his concert on October 2. Still, as Cassidy noted in a TikTok video, she hated staying in one place for too long and was "so ready to leave." Unfortunately, this separation seemed to have adverse effects on Payne's already fragile emotional state.

Eyewitnesses described Payne's erratic behavior in the hotel lobby, where he smashed his laptop and had to be escorted back to his room. Hotel staff were concerned enough about his state that they called emergency services. Tragically, when police arrived, it was too late; Payne had already fallen to his death from the third-floor balcony.

The autopsy report confirmed Payne suffered multiple traumas, including a fractured skull, leading to internal and external bleeding. Despite finding drug paraphernalia in his room, investigators do not suspect foul play. Payne leaves behind his 7-year-old son, Bear, whom he shared with ex Cheryl Cole.
