AceShowbiz - After retiring from the NFL in February 2023, Tom Brady has embarked on a new chapter in his life by purchasing a minority ownership stake in the Las Vegas Raiders. The NFL's fall meetings in Atlanta on Tuesday, October 15, saw team owners unanimously approve Brady's acquisition.
According to reports from NFL.com, NBC Sports, and Yahoo Sports, Brady joins Knighthead Capital co-founder Tom Wagner and former New England Patriots teammate Richard Seymour as part of a group acquiring a 10% stake in the Raiders.
Brady expressed his excitement and honor about becoming part of the Raiders organization in a statement after the deal was approved. He emphasized the team's core values of teamwork, resilience, and excellence, which align with his own experiences in the NFL.
"Throughout my NFL career, I've learned that at its core, football is a game of teamwork, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. The Raiders franchise and the city of Las Vegas embody these same values, and I'm honored to become part of that story," Brady said.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell praised Brady's investment, saying, "It's great that Tom Brady wants to invest in the NFL. He cares deeply about this game. He believes in its future, and I think that's just a signal of that."
Brady has had a long and successful career as a quarterback, winning seven Super Bowls and spending time with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has also recently transitioned into broadcasting, making his debut with Fox Sports earlier this season.
As part of his ownership deal with the Raiders, Brady reportedly agreed to restrictions that prevent him from accessing other teams' facilities, attending Raiders practices, or participating in broadcast production meetings. This is to avoid potential conflicts of interest due to his role as an NFL analyst.
Despite these limitations, sports law expert Mike McCann believes that Brady's status in the league will give him significant influence over the Raiders' decisions. "He's not a typical owner with 5%. He's Tom Brady, and that's going to give him more suasion over decisions made by the team," McCann said.
