In a candid interview with Stellar magazine, the Sydney-born singer, 36, shared her experiences in her relationship with the country music icon, 63, which culminated in a seven-month marriage and ended in divorce in 2024.
Recalling their first encounter in 2010 when she was 22 and Cyrus was 48, Firerose revealed her initial hesitation and reluctance due to his marital status and age difference. However, Cyrus' persistent efforts and promises of being her soulmate gradually drew her in.
During the pandemic, their paths crossed again, leading to a collaboration and a romantic relationship. Firerose described Cyrus's initial love-bombing behavior, promising a fantastical future with twins named Melody and Harmony.
However, as their relationship progressed, Firerose experienced growing isolation from friends and family, starting with their wedding in October 2023, where she had only one guest. Cyrus' controlling behavior extended to restricting her activities and instilling fear of being followed or murdered if she left the house.
Firerose further claimed that Cyrus shifted the blame for his past problems onto her, despite his numerous successes and blessings. Desperate to save the relationship, she poured herself into it, but realized it was a futile effort.
Reflecting on her experiences, Firerose now recognizes the manipulative tactics employed by Cyrus and shares her story to raise awareness about the prevalence of such behaviors. She wishes she never crossed path with her now ex-husband.
"When I think about what I just went through, I would have told my 22-year-old self to run in the opposite direction and never look back," she said. "My gut instinct, honestly, was: What does this guy want?" she remembered. "I probably should have had way better boundaries."
She hopes her experiences will empower others who may be facing similar situations, emphasizing that it is not their fault and that seeking help is essential.
