AceShowbiz - Lynyrd Skynyrd frontman Johnny Van Zant recently opened up about a serious family emergency that has led the iconic Southern rock band to cancel several concerts. Van Zant's youngest daughter, Taylor Marion, experienced alarming symptoms that led to an emergency room visit, where doctors discovered a mass on her brain.
This troubling news prompted the cancellation of five shows, including performances in Anchorage, Alaska; West Valley; Loveland; Colorado Springs; and Albuquerque.
In a heartfelt video shared on his social media on September 26, the 64-year-old vocalist detailed Taylor's health scare. "A couple of days ago Taylor started having [a] numbing feeling on her right side. She went to the emergency room," he explained. "They did a CAT scan and they found a, the only way to say it is a mass on her brain. And some of it was bleeding, that was causing the numbing part."
Doctors have provided some relief by suggesting that the mass isn't likely to be cancerous, though further testing is ongoing. "They're still doing a lot of testing and we're not out of the woods yet, but we're in a lot better position than we thought we were in the beginning," Van Zant assured his followers. He has called on fans to "keep saying prayers" for Taylor, emphasizing how much the support means to him and his family.
The tribulations didn't stop there for Van Zant and the Lynyrd Skynyrd crew. Adding to the tension, the band's bus driver, Brad Gibson, was also hospitalized following a scooter accident. Gibson's incident occurred while he was reportedly en route to get a card for the Van Zant family. "If you guys could say a prayer for Brad and his family," Van Zant requested. "He has a lovely family, a young daughter… and he's been an awesome driver for us and just a good, good guy."
Despite these challenges, the band remains resilient, with Van Zant expressing his determination to stay strong. "You know, the 'D' man tries to get you in every way whenever you start spreading his word," Van Zant added in his video. "But we ain't gonna let him. We're gonna fight him to the end."
The band's next performance is scheduled for June 2025 in Little Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and fans are eagerly anticipating their return. Meanwhile, Van Zant remains grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers that continue to uplift his family during this difficult period.
As the famed musician put it, "I'm gonna look up, myself, always look up. So you guys do the same. God bless you all and thank you."
In his latest update, the vocalist thanked fans for their outpouring love and support, "My gosh do I appreciate you all more than words could express. I know every week I ask for prayers for others but needing them for my own family is a feeling I'm new to."
"I thank everyone so much for your concerns and sweet words since the news of my daughter came out. I am also very grateful for the fans understanding in the cancelling of shows so I could be with her."
The past week has been a whirlwind of emotions but reading all your hopeful messages and comments really helped lift my spirits. Keep praying for Taylor during this time of transition," he went on. "Brad, who has been our bus driver, is still in need of serious prayer. He wrecked on his scooter in the beginning of the week and has been in the ICU since. He's a great young man, he has a family and a new baby so we need him to be healed up and doing better."
