AceShowbiz - "Mad Men" alum Christina Hendricks joins "Grey's Anatomy" star Ellen Pompeo to delve into this mystery on Hulu's gripping new limited series "Natalia", inspired by a bewildering real-life story.
The upcoming limited series, formerly known as "Orphan", is based on the true story of Natalia Grace. The plot centers around Midwestern couple Kristine and Michael Barnett, played by Ellen Pompeo and "The Morning Show" actor Mark Duplass. The couple adopts who they believe is an 8-year-old Ukrainian girl with a rare form of dwarfism. However, as they begin to integrate Natalia into their family alongside their three biological kids, doubts creep in, making them question Natalia's true identity.
Christina Hendricks portrays Cynthia Mans, a no-nonsense pastor's wife and foster mother, who becomes a pivotal figure in Natalia's life at a critical moment. Hendricks brings her renowned acting prowess, polished in her iconic role as Joan Holloway on "Mad Men" and later on NBC's "Good Girls", to this intense new character.
Adding to the dynamic ensemble, Dule Hill from "The West Wing" and "Psych" joins the cast as Brandon Drysdale, a detective delving into the criminal accusations against the Barnetts. Meanwhile, Sarayu Blue, known for her role on "Expats", takes on the role of Valika, a parent of one of the youngsters from Kristine’s daycare.
Notably, Natalia Grace's perplexing case has previously piqued public interest, being the focus of the 2023 Investigation Discovery series "The Curious Case of Natalia Grace". The series even spawned a follow-up season titled "The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: Natalia Speaks", which premiered earlier this year.
This series marks a significant venture for Ellen Pompeo, who signed on back in August 2022 to star in and executive-produce "Natalia". This commitment also coincided with her shift to a "limited capacity" role on "Grey's Anatomy", ultimately featuring in less than half of its 19th season.
Katie Robbins, known for her work on "The Affair", helms the project as creator and writer, alongside an executive-producing team that includes Pompeo, writer Sarah Sutherland, Pompeo's producing partner Laura Holstein, Mike Epps, Dan Spilo, Niles Kirchner, Andrew Stern and acclaimed director Liz Garbus.
With its stellar cast and gripping narrative, "Natalia" promises to be a captivating addition to Hulu's lineup, compelling viewers to unravel the enigma of who Natalia Grace truly is.
