AceShowbiz - Former WWE boss Vince McMahon has expressed dissatisfaction with the upcoming Netflix docuseries about his life, titled "Mr. McMahon". In a statement, McMahon stated that although he does not regret participating in the project, he believes it misrepresents aspects of his life and career.
McMahon claims that the producers have "conflat[ed] the 'Mr. McMahon' character with [his] true self, Vince" and used "out of context footage and dated soundbites" to create a "deceptive narrative." He alleges that the lawsuit filed against him regarding an affair is being used as evidence that he is, in fact, the "Mr. McMahon" character portrayed in the series.
In response, McMahon's lawyer, Jessica Rosenberg, has denied the allegations made against him, calling them "false" and a "fabricated, vindictive narrative."
Attorney Ann Callis, representing former WWE staffer Janel Grant, who filed a lawsuit alleging sexual abuse and trafficking against McMahon, denounced McMahon's statement as "delusional." Callis stated that Grant will not be silenced and that the docuseries, if accurately portrayed, will shed light on McMahon's "abhorrent and criminal actions."
The six-episode docuseries, directed by Chris Smith (Tiger King), chronicles the rise and fall of McMahon, focusing on his transformation of WWE from a regional business to a global entertainment powerhouse and the subsequent allegations of sexual misconduct that led to his resignation. The series will feature interviews with notable WWE figures such as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Hulk Hogan and John Cena.
McMahon has asked viewers to "keep an open mind and remember that there are two sides to every story." The docuseries "Mr. McMahon" is set to premiere on Netflix on September 25.
