AceShowbiz - Gwen Stefani's new song "Somebody Else's" has sparked speculation that it's a kissoff track aimed at her ex-husband Gavin Rossdale. The lyrics delve into a past relationship that she's seemingly moved on from, with Stefani singing about her ex's negative qualities.
"I don't know what a heart like mine was doin' in a love like that," she sings. "You're somebody else's/ And it doesn't even break my heart/ You're somebody else's/ And I pray for them, whoever they are."
Stefani was married to Rossdale for 13 years before their divorce in 2015. They share three sons, Kingston, Zuma and Apollo. Stefani describes her past romance as "rock bottom" and refers to her ex as "fake," even stating "you're dead to me" on the song.
Since her divorce, Stefani has moved on with Blake Shelton, whom she married in 2021. The couple met on the set of "The Voice" and has been together since 2015. Stefani addresses both her painful divorce and her new love on "Somebody Else's".
While Stefani hasn't shared many details about Rossdale after their split, Rossdale has spoken candidly about their divorce. "It'd be nice if there was sort of more of a connection with the person who made [the kids with me]," Rossdale said in a recent podcast interview. "So that side of it, I feel bad for my kids, that's it. That's the overriding thing."
Despite their divorce, Stefani and Rossdale continue to co-parent their children. Rossdale has also moved on, linked to electro-pop artist Xhoana X.
"Somebody Else's" is part of Stefani's upcoming album "Bouquet", set for release on November 15. The album will mark the 20th anniversary of her debut solo album "Love. Angel. Music. Baby.".
