AceShowbiz - Angela Bassett, Maya Rudolph, and Ariana DeBose turned heads on the red carpet at the first night of the 76th Creative Arts Emmys, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Saturday, September 7.
Bassett, at 66, dazzled in a skintight glittering purple and gold sequin gown that showcased her toned arms while she earned her first-ever Emmy that evening after nine nominations. The actress won the award for Best Narrator for her work in National Geographic's "Queens," a seven-part series exploring the fascinating world of animal matriarchies, notable for its entirely female production team.
In her acceptance speech, Bassett expressed her gratitude, saying, "It feels good; really, really good. Thank you to National Geographic, Wild Star Film, and all the directors - all women - who brought this incredible story, this incredible docuseries centered on the ferocious and magnificent things in the animal kingdom."
Not to be outdone, Rudolph, 52, radiated elegance in a pastel pink frilly gown with a cape, paired with chic white boots. Rudolph took home the Emmy for her voiceover work on the Netflix animated series "Big Mouth." Emotionally charged, she proudly kissed her trophy upon receiving it.
DeBose, 33, turned heads with her bold fashion choice, going shirtless in a deeply alluring red pantsuit. She was seen striking a pose with Morgan Marcell, who also mesmerized in an aquamarine gown with cut-outs.
The evening was packed with performances and accolades. Octavia Spencer, 54, looked effortlessly chic in a shimmering black blazer and matching pants, adding a fun feather purse to complete her ensemble. Comedian Nikki Glaser glittered in a halter neck silver backless gown while Ariana Madix stunned in a strapless black gown and matching gloves.
Another memorable moment came from legendary actor Dick Van Dyke, who at 98, tied with the late Norman Lear for the oldest Creative Arts Emmys Winner. Van Dyke won for Outstanding Variety Special for "Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic." The actor expressed his gratitude to the audience and his wife, Arlene Silver, who was also the producer of the special.
In addition to the individual achievements, Pat Sajak won his first Outstanding Host for a Game Show Emmy Award in an emotional send-off before retiring from "Wheel of Fortune." Alan Cumming took home the award for Outstanding Host For A Reality or Competition Program for "The Traitors," ending RuPaul's eight-year winning streak in the category.
