AceShowbiz - Vicki Gunvalson opened up about a terrifying health scare she experienced earlier this month. She shared her ordeal on the podcast "My Friend, My Soulmate, My Podcast". On August 22, "Real Housewives of Orange County" star began speaking incoherently while meeting with a client who happened to be a retired physician.
The client alerted Gunvalson's boyfriend, Michael Smith's daughter, Olivia, who took her to the hospital. Doctors initially misdiagnosed her with a sinus infection and sent her home. However, Smith found Gunvalson semi-conscious in the bathtub upon his return home. He took her back to the hospital, where she was correctly diagnosed with pneumonia and sepsis. The infection was so severe that her neurologist estimated her chances of survival at 10-20%.
"My body attacked the infection so hard that it affected my brain," Gunvalson explained. "I have a blank three days." Smith emphasized the seriousness of the infection: "It was dangerous. It was scary."
As of the podcast recording, Gunvalson was recovering but still experiencing low energy levels and difficulty walking. She praised Smith and Olivia for their unwavering support during her ordeal.
Her "RHOC" co-star Shannon Beador posted a message of well wishes on social media, calling Gunvalson "a strong woman who is going to continue to get stronger every day."
