In a joint video, the couple reminisced about their wedding day a year ago, which took place amid a redwood forest in Monterey, California. Derek, 39, shared a heartfelt message for his "beautiful wife" Erbert, 29, expressing his gratitude for her strength and grace during the past year.
In December 2023, Erbert underwent an emergency craniectomy for a cranial hematoma. In his anniversary message, Derek acknowledged the challenges they faced together during Erbert's recovery. "This past year has been a journey filled with so many challenges, blessings, difficulties, and triumphs," he wrote. "Through it all, your grace and beauty have shone brightly, reminding me every day of how blessed I am to walk this path with you."
Despite the health scares, the couple's love has only grown stronger. "But above all, this year has been a testament to the power of love - our love. Love truly conquers all," Derek wrote.
Prior to their wedding in 2023, Hough and Erbert began dating in 2015. Their wedding ceremony was attended by 106 guests and symbolized their commitment to building a family together.
Amid Erbert's recovery, Derek dedicated his 2024 Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography to his wife, praising her strength and courage. "Your strength and your courage this whole month has been unbelievable. You inspire me every single day," he said during his acceptance speech.
To celebrate their anniversary, the couple recently enjoyed a second honeymoon in Iceland. "It was like, 'Okay, we need a time to really just go on an adventure and to get out,' " Derek told PEOPLE. "I've been telling [Erbert] this really feels like our second honeymoon."
Friends and family poured their well wishes for the couple in the comment section of their Instagram post, including Derek's sister, Julianne Hough. "I love your love," she wrote, while Emmanuel Acho commented, "Happy Anniversary y'all! Thanks for being a great depiction of love in action."
