AceShowbiz - Madonna's birthday party plan lands her in hot water. The music legend is slammed for allegedly planning to throw a big party for her upcoming 66th birthday at ancient ruins of Pompeii.
According to a report, the Queen of Pop has rented the Teatro Grande, the 2,200-year-old amphitheater in Pompeii, for her 66th birthday on August 16. The bash is expected to host around 500 A-list guests.
Rumor has it that the historic amphitheatre has been booked by an American events company for just €30,000. The star allegedly will continue her birthday bash on a mega-yacht in the Gulf of Naples.
Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, who are currently vacationing in Italy, may be among those who get the invite. The Italian Minister for Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano is also said to be on the guest list as he previously said, "We are ready to welcome the singer."
Upon catching wind of the rumors, many Italians are against the plan. Among the critics is Michele Campisi, general secretary of the Italia Nostra heritage association, who thinks that the price is "absurd," adding, "It's like giving Pompeii away." Campisi also questioned why Madonna has to throw a birthday party at Pompeii out of all places.
Meanwhile, Rosanna Carrieri, president of cultural presence group Mi Riconosci, stresses that Italian heritage should not be used as a "scenic background" for "exclusive events."
While nothing has been confirmed, the "Material Girl" singer's Italian fan club hints in a Facebook post that it is "preparing" for her arrival. The pop star, who is of Italian descent, is expected to arrive in the area via the port of Marina di Stabia, close to Castellammare.
Should the report be true, it won't be the first time for Madonna to have a birthday party in the country. The "Vogue" songstress previously hosted her exclusive birthday parties in Sicily and Puglia.
