AceShowbiz - Harrison Butker, the highest-paid place kicker in the NFL, addressed his controversial May commencement speech at Benedictine College for the first time since its delivery. Butker, who recently signed a $25.6 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, maintains his support for his comments.
In his speech, Butker expressed views on women in the workforce, President Joe Biden's handling of COVID-19, and other ethical issues. He acknowledged the criticisms he faced, including from sports figures like Serena Williams and a former Chiefs cheerleader.
Despite the backlash, Butker emphasized that his speech was driven by love and good intentions. "I only want the best for people," he said. "I think the people that were in that gymnasium all understood what I was saying."
Butker added that he respects differing perspectives and believes his speech has sparked valuable conversations within the Chiefs locker room. "I do have a platform," he said. "I'm going to continue to say what I believe to be true and love everyone along the way."
On the field, Butker is coming off a career-best season, hitting 94.3% of his field goal attempts and going perfect in field goals during the Chiefs' most recent Super Bowl run. The Chiefs will begin their quest for their third consecutive Super Bowl championship on September 5 against the Baltimore Ravens.
