AceShowbiz - The adaptation of Erik Larson's bestselling non-fiction novel "The Devil in the White City" for the screen has had a winding journey. Since Leonardo DiCaprio acquired the film rights in 2010, the project has gone through various stages of development. It was initially set up as a Paramount feature with Scorsese directing and DiCaprio starring.

In 2019, Hulu announced it would develop the project as a big-budget series with DiCaprio and Scorsese as executive producers. However, last year, Hulu decided to abandon the project.

Despite the setback, ABC Signature, which has the project in association with Paramount Television Studios, expressed its commitment to finding it a new home.

Now, producer Stacey Sher, who has been involved with the project from the beginning, has confirmed to Deadline that it is still happening. "I'm still involved. I never give up," Sher said.

When asked if the screen version of Larson's book would emerge soon, Sher indicated continued interest. "I hope so," she said. "It's not imminent, but it is not ever far from my mind."

Sher also confirmed that the big names previously attached to the project, including DiCaprio, Scorsese, Rick Yorn and Jen Davisson, are still involved. "Yes, that would be Rick [Yorn], Leo [DiCaprio], Jen [Davisson], and Mr. Scorsese. We're all still involved."

"The Devil in the White City" follows Dr. H. H. Holmes, a cunning serial killer believed to have murdered up to 200 people during the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The book juxtaposes the hopeful expectations and wonders of the fair with the dark deeds of Holmes, who operated in its shadows.

Despite the recent setbacks, it seems that the producers remain committed to bringing the story of "The Devil in the White City" to the screen.
