AceShowbiz - Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck may prepare to embrace a new chapter in their life with the coming fall season. Amid rumors of their looming divorce, the pair are expected to announce their marriage is officially over by the end of the summer, sources say.

The sources tell Page Six that the singer/actress and the actor are heading for a multi-million dollar "exercise in closure" because they couldn't stop wondering about the "unfinished business" of their past.

"They got caught up in the moment. Jennifer had wanted this wedding - the gowns, the friends, all the trappings and trimmings - for decades," one friend explains to the news outlet. The friend believes the pair got caught up in nostalgia and the idea of finally living out their dream from two decades ago.

After two years of marriage, they are apparently ready for a closure. "They've turned the page on all the unfinished business of 20 plus years ago. They've seen things through to the end - and they know for sure now that they are not built for the long haul," the friend says.

"No further unanswered questions. They've seen all they need to see, and it's over," the source adds. "In the end, it's gonna be the most elaborate and expensive exercise in closure ever."

As for their future ahead, the "Shotgun Wedding" star and the "Gone Girl" actor are heading their separate ways. "Ben's found his new home, Jen's about to select hers. It's absolutely done and there is zero interest, inclination or reason to turn back," the friend claims.

Meanwhile, another source told PEOPLE that the 55-year-old reportedly "hasn't seen Ben for weeks," as the two are "moving on separately" amid a strain in their marriage. Considering everything that's going on, "Jennifer is having a good summer. She's been off and able to focus on what's next," the source assured. "She always has [a] good attitude even when things are not perfect."
