AceShowbiz - Jesse Plemons, known for his versatile roles and scene-stealing performances, recently opened up about his significant weight loss. At 36, the actor's decision to get healthy coincided with the rise of Ozempic, a diabetes drug rapidly gaining popularity as a weight-loss tool in Hollywood.
"It's really unfortunate that I decided to get healthy when everyone decided to take Ozempic," Plemons told The Los Angeles Times. "It doesn't matter, everyone's going to think I took Ozempic anyways."
Plemons, who famously gained weight for his role as Boston mobster Kevin Weeks in 2015's "Black Mass", clarified that his weight loss was driven not by appearance but by age and his role in the new drama, "Civil War".
"What it was was getting older and - I hate even getting specific because then it turns into a whole thing, but there was a part that I did that in my mind I could not imagine him as the size that I was," he explained.
The part in question is a cameo in the apocalyptic war drama, where he portrays a soldier in a tense scene alongside his wife, Kirsten Dunst. Plemons shares sons Ennis, 6, and James, 3, with Dunst. Reflecting on the role, he said, "I lost a little bit before I did that part," and added that it was "a really disturbing role to play."
It was intermittent fasting that turned out to be a game-changer for Plemons. "Several people talked to me about intermittent fasting and I just gave it a shot and [was] surprised at how quickly it was effective," he said.
Intermittent fasting, a time-restricted eating approach, has garnered significant attention for its simplicity and effectiveness, with devotees like Jennifer Aniston, Chris Pratt, and Kourtney Kardashian.
Jesse Plemons noted that after starting intermittent fasting, he felt in sync with his body's rhythm and experienced a mental shift. "I felt like I was in the rhythm, I was feeling better, and something shifted in my head. I just sort of got a handle on it," he confessed.
Despite initial concerns that director Yorgos Lanthimos might have wanted the "bigger me" for his new role in "Kinds of Kindness", Plemons found that being physically thinner actually suited the part better.
Looking ahead, Plemons remains focused on the present. "I've been doing it for so long that it almost doesn't benefit to look too far ahead," he mentioned. "And that's kind of worked for me so far... I'm constantly just looking at this next thing and following my gut [about] what is interesting and exciting to me."
